2026 The Siege Arm Wrestling at the Dagda Games at Claregalway Castle

Rules

The Siege Arm Wrestling

Similar to a Warzone but more like a king of the table format.

Pullers first order will be decided at random. They will line up close to the table. The Winner stays on and the loser joins the back of the line. The next person in the line steps up. The winner is the person with the most pins over 90 minutes.

If someone pins everyone 3 times in a row without a loss they will be crowned the winner. The matches will continue to find 2nd and 3rd until the time runs out.

At any time the current king of the table (winner) may take a rest but they must arm wrestle the next guy and take a loss. (or let the opponent win) They will then join the back of the queue.

Anyone joining the back of the queue after a loss is then bound into that order. To explain this further is once you join the back of the queue you must arm wrestle when you get to the front of the queue. You can let the other guy win if you are too tired but you must step up to the table.

90 Minutes is not long to get as many wins as possible.

Standard Arm Wrestling rules. The call will be Ready? Pause Go! No running fouls. No crossing the centre of the table. Letting go of a hand is not a slip it is a foul. You must make an attempt to hold on. A slip goes to a strap. A slip below the peg line is a pin. You cant pin an opponent in the middle of the table. Elbow coming off the pad is a foul. An early start is a warning/foul depending on the situation/ref. The referee's decision is final.

These are a few slight changes to keep the tempo of the matches going. Which is good for the arm wrestlers and the spectators.

You have 10 seconds to find a grip, then it’s a refs grip.

Moving in a refs grip when its set will be a foul. 2 Fouls is as always a loss.

The winner must not waste time on purpose (reapplying chalk, taking a drink, talking to the refs) This will be at the referee’s discretion. A warning may be used if the ref deems time wasting has occurred. 2 warnings is a foul.

There will be 2 tables being used in the comp. 1 for Pro and 1 for Novice. Please be at the Arm Wrestling stand for 10:30am. To sign the waiver and get a rule briefing from the refs.

The Mens left arm comp will begin at 11am sharp and end at 12:30. Ladies 12:30-1pm

The Mens right arm comp starts at 2pm and ends at 3:30pm. Ladies 3:30-4pm

If you miss the start you may be able to join the back of the line and begin pulling when you get to the front.

Awards will be around 5:30pm (A short time after the final round of the grip competition)

Rules are subject to change on the day, but all athletes will be made aware of any changes.
