Grip Rules for the event

Irelands strongest grip rules

Everyone to be at the Grip stand as close to 9:30am to sign a waiver and get a rule briefing.

Rising bar comp. Opt in or out of each lift. If you fail a lift your previous lift will be counted. Weight will start at 25kg then go up by 5kg each time on the rolling and V bar handle until 100kg then by 2.5kg increases.
Weight will start at 15kg go up by 2.5kg on the Pinch block.

The total kilos lifted across all handles will be converted in to points.

From when you step up to lift, you have up to 1 minute to complete your lift. You may apply chalk to the handle or hands during this minute.

Each lift is set to a height of 6 Inches. The bar must make contact with the crossbar during the lift. Referee has the final say.

The handle must be lowered with your hand touching. It may not be dropped. If it is dropped it will be deemed a no lift. You may begin other attempts in your minute. If it starts to fall you must follow it down with your hand, keeping contact with the handle. Referee’s decision is final.

The hand lifting the handle can not be dragged up the leg or make contact with the body during the attempt.
These are all 1 hand lifts but you may change hands during your minute to make your attempt.
You may not use your non lifting hand to brace on your leg. The non lifting hand may not touch the body to assist the lift.

The hand position on the V bar must not be below the bottom rim.

The Rolling handle may be lifting with the thumb or thumbless. The hand and fingers must only touch the rolling cylinder part and not the handle frame.

The pinch block may be tilted on lifting but not turned on its side. The lift is from the top of the block. No fingers allowed under the bock.

Only powdered chalk allowed. (Supplied). Hands may be subject to inspection by the ref’s.
No wrist supports, jewellery on the fingers or plasters on the hands. No loose sleeves close to the wrist. Elbow sleeves may be worn.

In the event of a draw a handle will be selected for a hold for time play off to decide the winner.

Meet at the grip stand around 9:30am. If you miss the start for any of the lifts you may still join in as its opt in and out rising bar lifting. Handles will start on time but they may run over the hour per handle depending on how many lifts are completed and lifters still in at the higher weights.

Rolling handle 10am-11am, V bar 1pm-2pm, Pinch Block 4pm-5pm. Awards around 5:30-6pm

These rules may be changed before the competition starts on the day but all athletes will be informed. Best of luck to all the competitors. Your name will be enough to gain entry to the festival as it is included in the comp fee.
